Head of the department:
prof. dr Vladimir Stupar
Associate Professor
Department of silviecology
The Department of Silviecology is one of the nine departments within the Faculty of Forestry of the University of Banja Luka. Silviecology applies the study of ecology to the discipline of forestry, which is why we focus on researching vegetation, flora, soil, climate and the environment.
The modern trends of the world today indicate a need for the greater protection of the natural environment – a need which forms a cornerstone to our Department. The Department of Silviecology monitors the preservation of forests and forest-land, contributing to the harmonization of developmental needs within multiple economic branches in the forestry sector, all of which guides the Republic of Srpska in its socio-economic growth.
Our students acquire the necessary range of knowledge, experience and skills in the field of forest habitat ecology during their undergraduate studies, which later helps facilitate their master’s and doctoral studies at the Faculty of Forestry and related faculties in biotechnical sciences. The staff of the Department is also involved in scientific research projects at international, national and local levels, within which basic and applied research is conducted in multiple forest-based ecological disciplines.
