International conference \u00bbForestry science and practice for the purpose of sustainable development of Forestry\u00ab<\/strong><\/p>\n

On the occasion of the 20th<\/sup> anniversary of the Faculty of Forestry, University of Banja Luka, an international conference was organized under the title: FORESTRY SCIENCE AND PRACTICE FOR THE PURPOSE OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF FORESTRY. The conference was held in Banja Luka, Republic of Srpska\/Bosnia and Herzegovina, from 1st<\/sup> to 4th <\/sup>\u00a0November \u00a02012. Nearly 150 participants from more than 20 countries took part in the conference (76 oral presentations; 25 poster presentations). The essential task of the Conference was to provide knowledge and to develop practical methods that will enable sustainable balance between human needs and natural forest resources, between human needs and ecological, economic and social development, and between human needs and the interests of forest owners. Forestry science and education at all levels need to be adjusted to the needs of forestry practices and sustainable forestry.<\/p>\n

The conference consisted of six plenary lectures which dealt with the main issues regarding forestry science and practice for the purpose of the sustainable development of forestry (1. Alexander Buck: \u201cRole of IUFRO in linking science and practice at the international level\u201d; 2. Jurij Diaci, Zoran Govedar, Milun Krsti\u0107, Renzo Motta: \u201cImportance and perspectives of silviculture for science and practice of forestry\u201d; 3. Branko Glavonji\u0107, Dragan \u010comi\u0107: \u201cActual situation and tendencies of development of the south eastern Europe forest products market\u201d; 4. Vasilije Isajev, Milan Mataruga, Ladislav Paule, Alexander Alexandrov: \u201cApplication of biotechnology in forestry\u201d; 5. Milan Medarevi\u0107, Andrej Bon\u010dina: \u201cMain characteristics and prospects of the development of forest management planning in the NW Balkan\u201d; 6. Milan Radovanovi\u0107, Milovan Pecelj: \u201cThe Heliocentric hypothesis on the origin of forest fires\u201d).<\/p>\n

After the plenary lectures, the participants worked in separate scientific sessions: I: Forest ecology, climate change and biodiversity of forest ecosystems; \u00a0II. Forest management planning; III. Silviculture and forest protection; IV. Forest utilization; V. Seed husbandry, nursery, reforestation, and urban forests; VI. Forest policy, economics, and organization in forestry; VII. Forestry education.<\/p>\n

On 3th November 2012, the field trip to virgine forest \u201cJanj\u201d was organized for all the participants. On that occasion, the participants were informed about the basic characteristics of one virgin forest (by Director Rosa Rakita and executive direktor Goran Jovic), its flora and fauna (by Mr Jugoslav Bruji\u0107) and its structural characteristics and developmental stages of this old-growth forest (by Mr Srdjan Keren). This gathering marked the beginning of a new stage in cooperation between the scientists and forestry experts from the Republic of Srpska and other countries. Sharing knowledge and experience was an opportunity for the realization of several interesting ideas.<\/p>\n

The book of abstracts was published before the conference. The proceedings will be published after the reviews of the papers presented during the conference.<\/p>\n

6th International symposium \u201cForest engineering of Southeast Europe-State and Challenges\u201d<\/strong> was held from 12th to 14th September 2019 at the Monument Hotel, in the National Park \u201cKozara\u201d, Bosnia and Herzegovina, organized by the Department of using of forest resources of the Faculty of Forestry, University of Banja Luka. The symposium gathered about 60 participants, the most relevant representatives of the forest engineering scientific and professional community from the region, and the direct participants in the symposium are: the Faculty of Forestry of University of Belgrade, Biotechnical Faculty of University of Ljubljana, the Faculty of Forestry of University of Sarajevo, the Faculty of Forestry of University of Zagreb, \u201cSs Cyril and Methodius\u201d University of Skoplje and the Faculty of Forestry of University of Banja Luka.<\/p>\n
