Department of forest management planning

Head of the department:
prof. dr Vojislav Dukić
full professor

The Department of Forest Management Planning (Forest Management) in the Faculty of Forestry at the University of Banja Luka continues the tradition of the same department from before 1992 – previously the Faculty of Forestry in Sarajevo. Since the founding of this Department – originally called the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry – in 1949, there was also the Department of Forest Management. This period of the Department’s work can be more easily divided into the era before Professor Matić’s retirement in 1972 and afterwards until the beginning of the war in BiH. Further detail regarding this timeline is presented in the brochure “Scientific, Professional and Teaching Work of the Department of Forest Management and… “(Sarajevo, 1974).
After the retirement of Professor Matić, the work of the Department continued in the same spirit according to the „Matić“ or „Sarajevo“ school of forest management. In practice, forest management on a typological basis and the application of a statistically representative method for forest assessment was introduced. The contribution of the Department for solving practical problems is described in the paper Forest Inventory and Management Planning in the Republic of Srpska (Koprivica, M., Maunaga, Z. 2000). In this period, the most important projects at the Department involved the research of coppice beech and sessile oak forests (Stojanović, O. and associates) and yield tables for spruce, white and black pine (Pavlič, J. and associates).
